Natai Beach - Khok Kloi - Khao Lak
The journey continues. I stayed a couple of nights longer in Khok Kloi, a village near Natai beach. I had to organize the bike better and buy some stuff, for example a straw hat. I have to admit I was also resting a bit, enjoying the place and planning ahead. The journey is long but I have almost two months time so it should be doable.
My route took me inland as I tried to escape the main road and the heavy traffic, this was by far one of the biggest challenge on this trip. Finding small jungle roads is not that easy, unfortunately Google maps and most of the bicycle centric apps do a really bad job. A Czech company with mapy did an ok job. So, kudos to the Czech team. I used the app often, later on I discovered Footpath which in my opinion is the best app for routing and planning. I will also include a link to the whole 1500km route I took.
After passing hotels in traditional Thai look, temples and coffee shops, I reached Amphoe Thai Mueang and stayed in the village Boutique hotel for a couple of nights. Wonderful place, I absolutely recommend it.
I decided to spend a day at the beach close by and adapt to the Asian rhythms. Relax, swim and enjoy different cold coffees in the shade of the palmleaves.
Next stop was Kaoh Lak. I left the main road and did a loop through the jungle, riding along little roads. What a great idea. Passing by thick green jungle with birds chirping and monkeys screaming is such an experience. At once you even find a hidden temple in front of you.
I didn’t like Khao Lak at all so I stopped in a small bungalow after the village and discovered a restaurant in the jungle where you could eat while you are sitting in the river.
Yes, IN the river.
In the evening I had a stroll to the beach nearby, a quick dinner and a nice sunset with kids playing on a swing. Peace & out.
With all the detours the distance was about 100km.
General Info: this trip was done December 2022 - January 2023.
